Yoga Therapy & Body Centered Approaches

Therapeutic Yoga and Mindfulness pair nicely with traditional talk therapy. This modality is a merging of breath work, movement, yoga postures, and psychoeducation around bodily sensations to assist you in gaining access to emotional issues that may not be revealed through traditional talk therapy.

Not only is this model effective in treating mental illness, it is also affordable, sustainable, and has far fewer negative side effects than medication and other western healthcare practices.

In addition, yoga and mindfulness are wonderful tools to help you get out of your head and into your body. These practices offer a practical way to learn present moment awareness by connecting with your own outer and inner experience without judgment.  Our goal is to assist you in containing and/or experiencing emotions in a safe and supportive place, so you can more effectively control difficult thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as learn to self-regulate mood states.  The cultivation of positive mental states will also help you to increases focus, creativity, effective decision making, and general sense of well-being.

But don’t just take our word for it…. Instead, try it out yourself. We have a number of free guided audio meditations for you to access for FREE on our Youtube page.

What Is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals toward improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga.

Yoga Therapy is a practice that guides you toward self-inquiry, self-transformation, and wellbeing. The practice is rooted in yoga’s holistic perspective that views the human system as multidimensional and consists of the body, breath, mind, emotions, and spirit. Health and wellbeing are dependent on all these integrated aspects. The practice of Yoga as a healing modality aims to cultivate a state of dynamic balance through these dimensions.

As part of a living tradition, Yoga Therapy continues to adapt and evolve to the current cultural and medical context and is increasingly becoming acknowledged as a therapeutic discipline with peer-reviewed studies.

While the practice of yoga inherently has potential for therapeutic effects, Yoga Therapy uses specific yoga practices and their known benefits to help alleviate symptoms and improve mental and physical ailments.

How Does Therapeutic Yoga Work?

Therapeutic Yoga Seattle aims to bring you to a healthy balance or homeostasis. The methods used in Yoga Therapy sessions include postures, breathing techniques, meditation, mantra, education on yoga philosophy, visualization, journaling, and lifestyle alterations that are meant to optimize and balance your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

What Can You Expect In A 1:1 Yoga Therapy Session?

In individual Yoga Therapy sessions, we will apply different yoga techniques in a therapeutic context to support your health challenges and healing process, whether you are dealing with physical injury, pain, stress, anxiety, or wishing to cultivate a balanced lifestyle. The session is tailored to meet you where you are and address your unique specific needs, goals, and intentions. The initial session includes an intake assessment designed to help the Yoga Therapist understand your concerns and goals for healing. You will be guided through a practice, and then you will receive an individualized home yoga practice plan to implement into your daily routine and transform your wellbeing. Return sessions include centering exercises, discussion, movement, breathing practices, philosophy themes, and intention setting to nurture healing.

What Can You Expect In A Group Yoga Therapy Session?

Group Yoga Therapy brings together a small group of people with the intention to foster a supportive and empowering community and collective healing through relationship. Although everyone has their unique journey and circumstances, a group setting has the potential for understanding ourselves in relation to others and healing through positive relationships. Sessions will include discussion, embodied practices, and tools, followed by processing, which will be facilitated by a Licensed Therapist. These groups are a safe and inclusive space where you can share, reflect, show up fully, and cultivate safety within.
